Bhajans to rock city's GenX onto spirituality track
CHANDIGARH: As the strobe lights flash and music plays, the crowd, a mix of young professionals and college-goers, begin to rock. This isnt a scene from the discotheque but an experience promised on August 30 to bring spiritualism close to the uninitiated.
The mega rock satsang is the first attempt of its kind in city to encourage GenX to step into the world of spiritualism, which they otherwise consider non-happening, says Tanushree Gupta, a senior faculty of Yes Plus, the youth wing of Art of Living, thats bringing this concept, akin to Gospel Rock, at a function to be held in St Kabir Public School.

As Mumbais Krishna Krishnan Keshvan renders bhajans in hip-hop and rock-n-roll mode, youngsters are expected to go into a trance-like state. Youngsters all over the country have found this way of growing spiritual highly appealing and energetic and we hope it will click with Chandigarhians as well, says Krishna, who quit his job as a software engineer and has performed in scores of satsangs across the country during the last two years.
He will be accompanied by some 10 city youth on stage, including Akshat, who feels their method of praying will also break the myth that only the old can attain spirituality.
Narrating his own experience, this software engineer at IDS Infotech, Nangal, adds, As a student, I was a lot into Western music. Once when I went to one such concert in Nangal along with my friends, I was surprised that despite being an introvert, I had danced for over four hours. The entire experience was so rejuvenating that I decided to join the troupe as a singer.
Expecting over 200 people at the event, Tanushree says, We wanted to present the event in a closed area and were happy to locate St Kabir, whose officials also have been very supportive and encouraging.
